Two UN Departments have recently unveiled new publications. DESA News (full text) is said to be "an insider's look at the United Nations in the area of economic and social development policy. It is produced by the Department of Economic and Social Affairs' Communications and Information Management Service with feature articles written by DESA staff. This is an electronic publication - no printed edition is generated."
The Department of Political Affairs (DPA) has just launched a new publication, Politically Speaking (full text), which will periodically highlight departmental news and political initiatives being carried out by the United Nations with the support and involvement of DPA. Featured in the first issue are: DPA reform initiatives, including an effort to bolster U.N. capacity to mediate peace agreements; an exclusive interview with the Secretary-General's special envoy to Iraq; as well as articles highlighting the UN role in Lebanon, peace-building in Guinea-Bissau, electoral assistance to Liberia and a recent referendum in the South Pacific atolls of Tokelau.
