UNCTAD's yearly report focuses on the importance of growth for supporting progress towards the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) as part of a more general trend of world economic expansion. It notes that most developing countries have benefited from this growth momentum as a result of strong demand for their exports of primary commodities and, to an increasing extent, of manufactures.
