This note looks at how African culture can contribute to leadership development. The brief describes aspects of leadership and leadership development in pre-colonial Africa. These lessons are then applied to leadership development in civil society organisations (CSOs). The paper explores how values of reconciliation, patriotism, collective responsibility and the importance of relationships, can be applied to leadership development. A number of lessons are recommended for how this can be achieved.
